Scan recipes from cookbooks
Your favorite cookbooks don't have to stay on the shelf. Honeydew can scan printed recipes and turn them into digital recipes you can access anytime, right from your phone.
How to scan a cookbook recipe
Launch the Honeydew app and tap the add button to start saving a new recipe.
Choose the camera or scan option from the import menu.
Hold your phone over the cookbook page so the recipe text is fully visible in the frame. Try to keep the phone parallel to the page for the clearest capture.
Tap the capture button. Honeydew's AI will read the printed text and convert it into a structured recipe.
Check the extracted recipe to make sure all the ingredients and steps came through correctly. Make any edits if needed, then tap save.
Tips for the best scan
- Good lighting makes a big difference. Natural light or a bright kitchen light helps the AI read the text accurately.
- Hold your phone steady. A stable shot avoids blur and produces better results.
- Flatten the page as much as possible. Curved pages near the spine of a book can distort the text.
- If a recipe spans two pages, scan each page separately. Honeydew will let you combine them.
Honeydew works with standard printed text found in most cookbooks. If your cookbook has unusual fonts or very small text, try moving the camera closer to capture a clearer image.
After scanning
Once saved, the scanned recipe behaves just like any other recipe in Honeydew. You can add it to cookbooks, include it in your meal plan, and generate a grocery list from it. Your physical cookbook recipes are now fully digital and always with you.
